Art of Yuemin Xin
ARTIST ALLEY BOOTH B-1
Yuemin Xin focuses on the freehand ink painting of mountains and water, and flower and
bird technique originating from the Ming Dynasty. This expressive art form utilizes a long-
established language of symbolism in the plants, birds, environments, and insects depicted to
create a form of visual poetry. Yuemin has transitioned this symbolic language, style, and
technique into new media by blending it with western artistic techniques to create a new global
form of expression. Yuemin paints directly onto rice paper, which has been framed on silk
scrolls. These impressionistic paintings are mostly painted on the surface of life, with vertical
brush strokes and ink colors flying, which can better reflect the charm of the scenery depicted
and express the artist’s feelings more directly than meticulous painting. She finds that the
blending of beauty in the words and the emotional expression of the brushstrokes can express
much more than mere words or painting techniques alone can convey.
The Four Seasons represent the feelings and moods as the landscape changes throughout
the year. Landscape painting is not only the scope of art, but also the resonance of the living
environment, mountains and rivers, and feelings of our country and home. Landscape painting
freezes an eternal nature for us, recording the abundant and deep natural feelings in the form of
images. In every household, where a few landscape paintings are hung, there are prayer ‘Ping
An’, good morals, and rich emotional expression. The Four Birds contains the chicken which
symbolizes future success and harmony, the pheasant symbolizing something being better than it is, the cranes representing congratulations and immortality, and the peacock representing
richness, kindness, and intelligence.
